Health and Wellness Programs - ACT Exercise Guidelines and Disclaimer
The following pages refer to exercise regimes which have been designed for use by physiotherapy clients of MS Australia - ACT/NSW/VIC. Different exercises are suitable for differing levels of ability. Exercises should not be attempted which are not suitable for the client's level of ability. Whilst these exercises are not dangerous when applied properly, certain safety issues must be considered before beginning any new exercise regime.
- The client's GP should be consulted prior to any increase in activity level.
- Exercises should be selected which are suited to the client's level of ability and fitness.
- A safe location should be chosen eg a non-slip floor clear of obstructions, with a firm source of support
nearby if necessary.
- Be sure that the client has a clear understanding of the exercise and its benefits before beginning.
- The client should be aware that fatigue levels and ability might vary from day to day and within the one day.
They should aim to stop the exercises well before the first signs of neurological fatigue.
- It is preferable to exercise for the first few sessions with someone else present, for safety reasons.
MS Australia - ACT/NSW/VIC recommends that the above guidelines should be followed but does not accept liability for any accident or injury resulting from private use of these exercise regimes.
